The Greater Elkridge Community Association is hosting a Board of Education Candidate Night
When: October 11, 2012, 7 pm
Where: Grace Episcopal Church Parish Hall
6275 Montgomery Road, Elkridge, Md. 21075
Howard County is opening a new elementary school on Duckett’s Lane in Elkridge to help alleviate some of the worsening overcrowding problem in our elementary schools.
But the redistricting plan to fill this school does not provide a long-term solution to the overcrowding in our elementary schools. In three years, we will be back where we started, with many elementary schools exceeding 115-130% capacity. In addition, the developer of Oxford Square has requested permission to increase his density from 954 apartments to nearly 2,000. Plan Howard 2030 will continue to introduce record growth in the Route 1 corridor, the school system must have a long-term solution in place to find room in our schools for all of these children. Aside from capacity and space needs in the county to deal with the additional density what resource and curriculum changes should be made to push Howard County Schools to the top.
Now is your chance to meet the Board of Education candidates, who we will elect in November, and ask them tough questions about how they plan to solve these problems. Please take this opportunity to get to know the candidates and hear their answers to questions important to our school children in Elkridge and rest of the county.
We hope to see you on the 11th at Grace Hall on Montgomery Rd. 7:00 PM.
